Referral Providers: Primary partners in connecting men who are homeless to permanent supportive housing at McCreesh Place:
ACCESS (704) 336-6870 – Located directly behind Uptown Shelter, ACCESS provides a one-stop connection to services for people who are homeless with severe and persistent mental illness.
Urban Ministry Center (704) 347-0278 – Outreach & soup kitchen, counseling, showers, laundry, community-building and advocacy via Homeless Helping Homeless, Artworks945, Community Works945, winter shelter via Room In The Inn, and SABER (Substance abuse education & recovery).
Uptown Shelter (704) 334-3187 – Emergency and transitional shelter, substance abuse treatment onsite.
Homeless Support Services – Mecklenburg County provides 4 outreach workers to assess the housing needs of people who are homeless and make referrals as needed. Each of the 4 is located at a different HSN organization: Urban Ministry, Uptown Shelter, A Child’s Place, and Crisis Assistance Ministry. Contact HSS Supervisor Megan Coffey (704) 926-0617.
Salvation Army ARC – Located on Central Avenue, the ARC provides recovery support and transitional shelter to men who participate in their vocational program and have completed substance abuse treatment.
Emergency Winter Shelter – Open from October until April in 2007, EWS provides low-demand shelter 7 nights a week.
Hope Haven (704) 372-8809 – Aftercare housing and life skills/vocational program for individuals and families upon completion of substance abuse treatment.
