Volunteer
“It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.”
– Irish Proverb
Come experience the community-building that makes McCreesh Place unique and learn how it’s possible to end homelessness. Homelessness happens to people when they are socially isolated, and the experience itself can be further isolating. Creating community connections for formerly homeless men can mean as little as offering a ride, or as much as offering to share a meal or celebrate birthdays and holidays together. St. Peter's Homes welcomes individual volunteers as well as groups from faith communities, schools, businesses and organizations.
Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:
On-Call, Ongoing & Event Drivers
Often transportation is a barrier to participation in life. One volunteer takes a resident grocery shopping every week. Others drive as needed for last minute appointments. Event drivers help us make outings possible when tickets are donated.
Host Groups for Birthday Celebrations
Groups are needed for monthly birthday celebrations.
Holiday & Activity Hosts
The season that brings smiles to most can be harder to weather when you feel alone. Individuals and groups can make someone’s holidays special or make any day a holiday with a simple activity.
Saturday Hot Dogs & Cooking Clubs
Meals make a community! On Saturdays, volunteers bring hot dogs to our picnic tables for everyone's enjoyment. Monthly, a group of volunteers gathers with the residents to cook a meal.
Building Projects
Help with needed building maintenance and landscaping projects.
Front Desk Volunteers
Help at the front desk to greet visitors and talk to residents.
Other volunteer opportunities are:
-
health practitioners for our wellness room
-
choir members for our community choir
-
computer training for residents
-
your talents, skills, ideas and services are welcome
